PROJECTS
ABOUT ME

I studied a degree in Television Production at Bournemouth University's Media School. After graduating, despite the allure of the bright lights of London and a promising wage for warming up Davina McCall's soup, I opted to stay in Bournemouth and set up a video production company. Throughout this time I created videos for the burgeoning online video market, shooting performances and interviews with artists including Neyo, Basement Jaxx and David Guetta.

At the time I lived with six other graduates, and one of my housemates was working in recruitment. And hated it. She told me she was quitting her job and coming to work with me. Thinking she was joking I laughed and told her that was fine, but she'd have to work for free and make me sandwiches.  She wasn't joking, and she quit her job the very next day. We quite quickly had to secure more contracts, lest we die of starvation. As luck would have it, she knew of a charity that was launching a new initiative called ITV Fixers, and we pitched for a job creating their video content and won it - which gave us the opportunity to shoot films about young people who wanted to take on an issue, and make a positive difference.

This initially small charity grew very quickly to a nationwide project, and I cut my teeth self-shooting hundreds of factual and drama films on a variety of issues from knife crime, homelessness, drug addiction, racism and sexual abuse. We won multiple awards and after 2 years in the company I became the Director of the Creative department;  commissioning, self-shooting and directing online films and looking after a team of ten other producers.

Since leaving ITV Fixers, I have directed and produced a variety of documentaries and factual programmes for all the major terrestrial television channels, and for online. I like to create entertaining and humour-filled shows, but those that deal with important and delicate issues that can make a positive difference in the lives of the contributors or the audience.

I have filmed throughout the UK and worldwide, from the Okavango Delta, India and LA, with sensitive contributors and gaining access to hard-to-reach locations such as safe houses for sex workers, hospitals and prisons.

I am passionate about filming strong, beautiful visuals and I am experienced self-shooting on cameras including the Sony FS7, the Canon C300, as well as larger format cameras including the F800. I have experience directing crews; both on location with single cameras and with multiple cameras in a studio environment. I am a trained editor, and can edit competently and efficiently on Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and Avid.

In 2019, I joined Extinction Rebellion as a volunteer and eventually took on the role of Live-Streaming Director - coordinating large teams of roving reporters to provide live video coverage of actions and protests directly from their mobile phones to the social media channels. Some our our videos went viral, with views on individual videos reaching half a million viewers.

Social media live-streaming was at the time a medium in its infancy, and as time went on I stayed on top of the latest developments, progressing to producing live shows using systems such as OBS, Wirecast, Zoom, StreamYard and Stage Ten. This gave us the ability to link up multiple reporters in locations all over the world in a single broadcast, and stream it out simultaneosuly to multiple platforms, increasing audience engagement exponentially.

With the life-changing arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, many broadcasters and other organisations suddenly required the abiltiy to live-stream content to their social media channels in order to reach their audiences in a locked-down socially distanced world. I began working with various organisations, including Amnesty International, to manage, produce and direct live talk shows, debates, Q&As, performances and interactive content utilising the latest in live-streaming technology.

I have a blog and occassional write articles about mental health (www.ohmygad.org.uk) and campaign for mental health to be a top-priority in the workplace, helping everyone feel more supported, happier and in turn more productive.

I currently live in Tooting in the South West of London, which is one of those neighbourhoods that has been threateneing to be up-and-coming for many years, but arguably never quite made it. But it has a nice market and I love it.
